What can you see? I can see a middle aged man with black short hair standing in the middle of a room staring right into the camera. He is positioned in the middle of the room and in the middle of the window, with the lines of the window acting as leading lines grabbing out attention straight to the man. The man is on the phone standing up with a grey zip up hoodie on and either white shorts or white boxers. The photographer must of took the photo from outside the window as it feels like we are actually looking in the window staring at the man but there is a light coming from the bottom left corner but it is dark outside the window where the photograph was taken so there must be a lamp hidden behind the sofa. The room he is standing in has a white ceiling but blood red wallpaper with many pictures in frames hung on the wall. The photos are hard to see but they are all in nice antique frames, one frame looks gold/bronze with many fine details carved into it and the other is brown with carvings on all four corners, the third is cut off but looks fairly similar to the wooden one right next to it. There is a dark brown sofa next to him with a light grey stool (foot rest) perfectly symmetrical to the sofa. In the corner where the mysterious light is coming from there is an armchair facing the centre of the living room with a very unusual pattern on it with a festive pillow placed on the armchair. This image looks like a scene out of a horror film as there is very limited light making it dark, mysterious and old. It looks like the photographer is spying on the man in the window but the man does not look the tiniest bit scared but he must be able to see the person taking a picture. It reminds me of the beginning of the horror film "scream" as in the first scene there is a young girl alone in her house and she gets a phone call at first thinking it was her friend but soon realised it wasn’t. It was a creepy automated voice who knew things about her and her house and she goes around her house scared locking all doors and windows but then sees "Ghost-face " through a window and thats the scene it remind me of. How did you think Shizuka yokomizo created this image? I think Shizuka Yokomizo created this image by positioning the man in the centre of the wooden frame on the window and she used lighting to make it look dark, dull, boring but it isn't boring for some reason, its kind of mysterious like who he on the phone too, does he see the photographer, is the photographer a stalker, its very intriguing but its just a man on the phone looking out of his window. I think Shizuka purposely took this image at night to show how bright the room is and to really show the man as the main focus of this image. I think for the photographer to get the man standing in his window she either Knew him or asked him to or i did some research and she could of put a letter through his door asking him to stand in front of his window at a certain time and took the photograph. How does this picture make you feel? This picture makes me feel intrigued and curious because it seems like a scene from a horror film and something bad is going to happen right after this photograph was taken. I don’t understand why it captures my attention so much its just a guy standing in the window but i think its the fact i don’t know the relationship between the photographer and the subject, does the man know someone is taking this picture, is it staged, is the person he's on the phone to the photographer telling him what to do, how to stand, how to pose. This image gives me a feeling of suspense as it looks like a horror film and the unexpected it about to happen, it seems like a "right before a disaster" picture. What 3 questions would you ask the artist? If i could speak to Shizuka Yokomizo in person i would like to ask her these 3 questions. How did you know to take a photo like this? Did the image come out as well as you hoped? How does some research help you understand this picture and the artists practice? I think some research would help me understand this picture and the artists practice because it would answer all the questions i've asked already and it would help me understand the purpose, the focus, and the reasoning for this image. It would also help me understand the artist as a person, like where did she get her inspiration from and how she comes up with these ways to create and take photographs. How does this picture relate to the theme of openings? This picture relates to the theme of openings because it seems like the photographer is opening us up to the mans home life and day to day life. Reading the article has made me understand how she got people to stand in their front room and look outside the window waiting for someone to take their photo. Shizuka wrote many letters and posted them through peoples letterboxes in London statIng; She was an artist working on a project that involves people she does not know and ask them to stand in their front room looking out of their window at a certain time and date, she will take their picture and leave and they will remain strangers. Quite a handful of people waited at their windows for Shizuka but they could only see the outline of her as it was taken of a night.
