We have now started a new project about constructed landscapes
What is a landscape picture?
1.What do you see in your mind's eye when you hear the word landscape? I see a beautiful, quiet, calm scenery when i hear the word landscape. 2. Make a list of the first 10-20 words that pop into your head. What words do we associate with landscape? The words that pop in my head that i associate with landscapes are; calm, quiet, beautiful, sunset, sea, nature, birds, waves, peace, mindfulness. 3. Do a Google image search for the word landscape. What kinds of pictures appear? When i google "landscape" on google lots of mountains, sunset, lakes, water, nature, grass.
4. What would be your ideal landscape? My ideal landscape would be a sandy beach with bright blue clear water at sunset, the sky would be filled with bright colours of pink, purple, orange and yellow. There would be a light breeze and the sound of waves crashing. It would be very calm, relaxing, and peaceful. 5. Describe the landscape you see when you look outside When i look outside i see tall buildings, students in classrooms, students playing football and people eating lunch on a bench.

Using the darkroom.
We have started a project called constructed landscapes. To begin this project we started by cutting out certain sections of landscapes and sticking them onto one piece of paper creating a collage, i cut out the buildings of one landscape and the mountains and lake of another, i stuck the buildings behind the mountains creating the effect that the buildings were in the distance of the mountains. We then photocopied our collages onto acetate paper. We then went into the dark room where Ms Wildy gave us a tutorial of all the chemicals we had to use and how long to leave our negatives in each chemical for. We then used photographic paper and our acetate and put the acetate on top of the photographic paper and we used the enlarger to expose the image for 10 seconds we then put our negative into the developer until we could see our image, next we put it into the stopper to stop our image from overdeveloping for 1 minute, then we put it into the fixture to get rid of any unwanted scratches or marks for 30 seconds, then lastly we put it into cold water to rise off the chemicals and then we hung it up to dry. My first one i exposed for too long and came out really dark and dull, so the second time i only exposed it for 4 seconds and it came out really good. Then we created negatives by taking photographic paper and facing our negatives down towards the photographic paper and exposed it for 30 seconds then put it in the developer, stopper and the fixture. I also created a cyanotype by using my acetate and cyanotype paper and went outside for 10 minutes to expose the cyanotype paper to uv.
Out of focus landscapes
Bill Armstrong
Bill Armstrong is known for his blurred coloured abstract photographs as you can see in these examples of his work, you can see bright figures surrounded by bright coloured shapes and colours overlapping. In two of these photographs the figure is stood to the left but there is no blank space left as bright colors fill up the empty space.
